Book Week Fun

A huge variety of events took place throughout the week to celebrate Book Week. These included a Roald Dahl Dress Up Day, and it was lovely to see the girls really getting into their characters—for example, Danielle in Form 5 was a perfect Miss Honey and took good care of our Matildas!

There was also a ‘Wormy Spaghetti’ challenge, with Mrs Pateman from Bluebird Nursery commenting, “The children in Owls Class thoroughly enjoyed the worm activity yesterday—it was wonderful!”

We had a visit from poet Brian Moses, who encouraged the children to use their imaginations to write innovative poetry and brought drums with him to demonstrate the importance of rhythm in poetry. His workshops were very interactive and the girls produced excellent poems. He was so impressed by Faith’s poem in Form 6 that he has included it on his blog (http://brian-moses.blogspot.co.uk/2016/10/new-zealand-2012-joy-of-fresh-cutting.html).

We had an informative English Curriculum Evening with a talk from Miranda McKearney OBE, and the week drew to a thrilling close with the House Poetry Competition. Congratulations to the finalists, who showed great talent, and many thanks to Mr Fowler, Headmaster of Aldenham School, who adjudicated the event. Well done to the winners, Whitby House. “This has been an inspiring, exciting week, challenging our concepts of reading,” said Mrs Rosewall, who organised the events.
