St Hildas School

Celebrating World Book Day 2019

The girls had a busy week dressing up as book characters, learning how to write interesting stories and swapping books at a Breakfast Bookswap!

On Tuesday 5th March children’s author Gwyneth Rees visited the school and talked to us about her new book “Supercats” and how she created it. She also held writers’ workshops with Forms 2-6, teaching the girls how to create story characters and problems for them to solve that would interest readers.    Ms Rees enjoyed her time with us, and she particularly loved all the princess, mermaid and cat costumes, which are some of the main characters from her books, that the girls had dressed up as on the day.

Later in the week we had a successful “Big Breakfast Bookswap” raising over £80 for the very worthy charity, Book Aid.  Thank you to everyone who donated books for this event.

What a wonderful week it was, celebrating all that’s wonderful about children's books and reading.  We can’t wait to do it all over again for World Book Day next year!
