Empathy Day
Empathy Day at St Hilda’s began with a whole-school assembly led by Children’s Laureate Frank Cottrell-Boyce, who explored this year’s theme, “Jump into someone else’s story.” He shared empathy-building activities, including creating empathy bookshelves, resolutions, and postcards. He also told the true story of Liverpool’s Spellow Library, which was damaged in riots but rebuilt thanks to a local resident's fundraising—an inspiring example of empathy in action.
Throughout the day, pupils discussed their “empathy superpowers” and continued to show empathy in various activities. Alongside Empathy Day, students participated in English Speaking Board exams, athletics at Aldenham, and the Form 6 Fiver Challenge stalls.
Form Captains, acting as 'Empathy Spotters,' shared moving examples of empathy across the school—from pupils to staff—during the morning assembly. It was a meaningful and emotional day, full of opportunities to practice and celebrate empathy at St Hilda’s.
